Reichsbahn General Directorate
The Reichsbahn-Generaldirektion (RBGD) was the supreme administrative authority of the railways to be administered in the British Zone due to Proclamation No. 2 of the Control Council and was founded on August 20, 1945 in Bielefeld .
The Reichsbahndirectors Essen , Hamburg , Hanover , Cologne , Münster and Wuppertal were combined in it. The general director was Max Leibbrand .
In accordance with the formation of the bizone , it changed its name in 1946 to the head office of the railways of the American and British occupation areas .
On December 11, 1947, it was relocated there as the main administration of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the United Economic Area (HVR) , based in Offenbach am Main . After the Federal Republic of Germany was founded on September 7, 1949, it became the Deutsche Bundesbahn .
