Reich Association of German Center Students

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Reich Association of German Center Students (RDZ) was the official university offshoot of the German Center Party in the Weimar Republic . He represented the educational and university policy line of his parent party and advocated the political neutrality of the German Student Union (DSt).

The Reichsverband was predominantly represented at the Catholic universities in Rhenish and South Germany, but - like most of the other political student associations of the time - remained numerically weak, as party political engagement was widely regarded as "unacademic". For this reason, the RDZ was also fought hard by the Catholic associations with a large number of members (especially the CV ).

In addition to the Reichsverband, there was also a smaller and more left-wing liberal working group of republican center students who worked with the Reichsbund Deutscher Demokratischer Studenten and the socialist student body in the republican student cartel.

When the right-dominated DSt lost its state recognition in 1927/28, the working group participated in the counter-founding of the "German Student Association", while the RDZ continued to support the DSt.

After the National Socialists came to power, both factions had to stop their work.
