Reinhard Maria Huebner (born October 26, 1937 in Opole , Upper Silesia Province ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian .

Life

Hübner studied Roman Catholic theology and specialized in patrology , among others with Ernst Dassmann . He received his doctorate in 1970 and habilitation in 1976 at the University of Bonn . He was a professor for ancient church history and patrology from 1978 to 1990 at the Eichstätt University and from 1990 to 2003 at the University of Munich .

In particular, Huebner's proposal to re-date the letters of Ignatius of Antioch to the late instead of the usual early 2nd century AD was controversial. The dating of the Epistles of Ignatius, for example, has consequences for the history of the emergence of the episcopate .
