Travel souvenirs or souvenirs in mind this article, goods, and imported by travelers occasionally for personal use or consumption, for their family members or as a gift in their personal luggage. German or European law stipulates that for each traveler souvenirs are exempt from import duties within the scope of the following quantity and value limits:

Entry from a non-EU country

The "non-EU countries" include within the framework of the travel allowance guidelines

  1. all countries that are not member states of the European Union and
  2. the Canary Islands , Channel Islands , French Overseas Departments , Aland Islands , Gibraltar , Heligoland , Büsingen , Ceuta and Melilla , Livigno and other areas where Community VAT and excise duties do not apply.

When importing souvenirs from the above The following exemption limits (also called duty-free amount) apply to the countries and areas mentioned:

  • Tobacco products:
200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250 grams of smoking tobacco or a proportionate combination of these goods;
  • Alcohol and beverages containing alcohol:
one liter of alcohol and alcoholic beverages with an alcohol content of more than 22 percent by volume or undenatured ethyl alcohol with an alcohol content of 80 percent by volume or more or two liters of alcohol and alcoholic beverages with an alcohol content of not more than 22 percent by volume or a proportion of these goods, four liters non-foaming Wines and 16 liters of beer;
  • Drug:
the amount corresponding to the personal needs of the traveler;
  • Fuels:
for each motor vehicle, the amount in the main container and up to ten liters in a portable reserve container;
  • others were:
up to a total value of 300 euros, for air and sea travelers up to a total value of 430 euros, for travelers under 15 years up to a total value of 175 euros.

The exemption from duties in maritime transport depends on whether the watercraft last left a port that is located in a third country or area ( Section 2 (4) of the Entry Exemption Regulation).

Entry from an EU country

The following limits apply within the EU:

  • Tobacco products:
800 cigarettes or 400 cigarillos (no more than three grams each) or 200 cigars or 1 kilogram of smoking tobacco or a proportionate combination of these goods
  • Alcohol and beverages containing alcohol:
10 liters of spirits or 20 liters of intermediate products (vermouth) or 90 liters of wine, but a maximum of 60 liters of sparkling wine and 110 liters of beer
