The Reitstadel , also Kulturhaus Reitstadel or Historischer Reitstadel is a concert hall in Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate . The building is located on Residenzplatz and, together with the Hofkirche and the Palatine Palace, forms the center of the palace district.

Furnishing

The Reitstadel has a 350 square meter foyer area on the ground floor, which is mainly used for receptions and exhibitions. The large concert hall on the 1st floor has 312 seats, a further 143 seats are in the gallery on the 2nd floor.

The Reitstadel is equipped with an elevator, and there are spaces for wheelchair users in the hall.

Directly next to the building is the underground car park at Residenzplatz , which is connected to the Reitstadel via direct access.

history

The building was built at the end of the 14th century, probably under Count Palatine Otto II , initially as a storage room for animal feed and grain supplies and later also used as a weapons and ammunition depot. In 1520 the Reitstadel burned down completely and was rebuilt from 1531 and 1539 under Count Palatine Friedrich II .

Between 1850 and 1909 the building also served as a riding arena for the garrisons of the Chevauleger regiments stationed in the neighboring barracks .

During the American air raid on Neumarkt on April 22, 1945, the Reitstadel received a direct hit and burned out completely, only the outer walls remained. Only in the late 1970s were plans drawn up to rebuild the building as a concert hall, which then took place from 1980 to 1981. In 2001 an annex was added to the building, in which there are artists' cloakrooms and rehearsal rooms.
