History of the company

In 1937 Julius Seidler acquired a small paint factory from the Dutch company Varossieau & Cie. in Donaufelderstrasse. Inspired by a label with the famous painter Rembrandt, the lacquer factory operated under the name Rembrandtin Lacquer Factory Julius Seidler from 1947.

In 1982 it was awarded the Austrian national coat of arms . Five years later, the decision was made to build a new paint factory. After 11 months of construction, the modern company was opened in June 1989 with the participation of leading personalities from politics and business. In the following year, Rembrandtin received the environmental Oscar. Today's ALTANA Chemie AG acquired the majority stake in Rembrandtin in 1993 through the parent company at the time, Rhenania-Werke .

In the following years the company received numerous awards. Between 1994 and 2011 she was awarded the Responsible Care Certificate, environmental prize of the Viennese economy, five times. In 1995 the company appointed the environmental manager of the month in accordance with the quality management standard ISO 9001 , in 1997 it was a Mercur prize winner, and one year later the Eco Audit / ISO 14001 followed . In 1999 and 2000 Rembrandtin was awarded the Environmental Prize of Austrian Industry, followed in 2004 by the Interdisc award as an exemplary apprentice training company.

In 2005 EK Mittelstandsfinanzierung AG (UniCredit / Bank Austria) took over 100% of the shares in ALTANA Chemie AG. The focus was on 4 product pillars: electrical sheet coatings, industrial coatings, corrosion protection systems and road marking paints. After a successful 2005, Ring International Holding AG took over 100% of the shares in EK Fin AG in 2006 . The aim was to position Rembrandtin even more strongly in the core markets and to expand it in all areas. In 2007 Rembrandtin took over Iris Lacke Baumann GmbH in Eitorf / NRW, now Rembrandtin Powder Coating GmbH. The expansion of international business was achieved in 2009 with the establishment of Rembrandtin  Sro, Brno / Czech Republic and the Tongling Rembrandtin Coating  Co Ltd. joint venture . in Shanghai for the increasingly important Chinese market. A year later, together with Christ Lacke , which has also been part of the Ring Group since 2007, the founding of Rembrandtin Farbexperte  GmbH for private customers and artist paints followed.

Today the RIH-Lackgruppe has a turnover of around 75 million euros.

Since 2014, Rembrandtin has been part of the European paint group Helios Group, which is one of the top ten companies in the European paint industry. In 2017 there was a merger with the Japanese paint company Kansai Paint .
