The René Moawad Air Force Base Airport ( Arabic مطار الرئيس الشهيد رينيه معوض, Maṭār ar-Ra'īs asch-Schahīd Rīnīh Muʿawwaḍ ) ( IATA code : KYE, ICAO code : OLKA), formerly and partly still as Koleyat Airport ( Arabic مطار القليعات, Maṭār al-Qulaiʿāt ) is a military as well as civilian airport in the north of Lebanon near the city of el-Qlaïaat (also spelled al-Qulay'at, Qulayaat, Kleyate or Koleyat).
The Lebanese Air Force converted the civil airfield into an air force base in the 1960s.
In November 1989, entered the National Assembly here after signing the Agreement of Ta'if together to René Moawad to choose the president. He was assassinated 17 days later , and the airport was later renamed in his honor.
In the 1990s, the Lebanese airline Middle East Airlines operated regular flights between here and Beirut to serve the area around Tripoli .
During the 2006 Lebanon War, the Israeli Air Force bombed the airport on July 13, 2006.
