René Farwig

René Fererico Farwig Guillen (born September 30, 1935 in Germany ) is a retired ski racer . He was the first athlete in Bolivia at the Winter Olympics .

The opportunity to participate in the Olympics arose when Farwig became South American Alpine Champion in 1955. With little support from Bolivia, he was the only representative of his country to take part in the Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1956 . In his two races he finished 75th in giant slalom and retired in slalom .

René Farwig later emigrated to Canada , where he became the manager of a ski area near Jasper (Alberta) . On the occasion of the 1980 Winter Olympics , he and his brother put together a small Bolivian team, which also included René's nephew Billy Farwig . Eight years later he was supporting a Bolivian team at the Calgary Olympics . At these games, René Farwig was responsible for the Olympic ski slopes in Nakiska .
