René Habachi

René Marc Habachi (born September 6, 1915 in Cairo , † February 11, 2003 in Paris ) was an Egyptian - Lebanese philosopher .

Life

René Habachi holds a degree in philosophy from the University of Grenoble . The Copt Habachi, who converted to the Roman Catholic Church, held professorships in philosophy at the American University of Beirut , the Lebanese University of Beirut and the Université Saint-Joseph from 1953 to 1969 . Habachi, founder of an institute for philosophy in Cairo, also headed the Philosophy Section of UNESCO in Paris. He died in Paris in 2003 at the age of 87.

Habachi's endeavor was to convey a modern worldview to the Arabs that did not separate from their history. In connection with existentialism , Marxism and the thoughts of Emmanuel Mounier , he sketched a personalism based on the spiritualism of the Mediterranean world.
