René Le Bègue (* 1857 ; † 1914 ) was a French photographer. He is considered a leading representative of pictorialism in France.

Life

Le Bègue was a founding member of the Photo-Club de Paris in 1888 together with Robert Demachy , which was later joined by Constant Puyo , another of the leading French-speaking pictorialists of his time. As the first French photographer ever, he was accepted into the art photographers association Brotherhood of the Linked Ring in 1894 .

From 1894 Le Bègues works took part in various exhibitions in France. In the first quarter of 1906 they were shown in Alfred Stieglitz ' Gallery 291 in New York. In addition, some of his recordings have been published in well-known contemporary journals, for example in Camera Notes or Die Kunst der Fotografie . Two of his pictures can be found in Camera Work , October 1906 edition. Together with his uncle Paul Bergon , who also took photographs, and Robert Demachy and Constant Puyo , who were also members of the Photo Club, he illustrated the book Costume d'Atelier in 1892 . He also created the book Le Nu et le Drapé en Plein Air together with his uncle in 1898 . His recordings were also used to illustrate other books.
