The racing hat (also known as the racing hood ) is a late medieval tournament helmet that was developed from the German Schaller for "racing" (a type of tournament). He completed the racing kit .

The racing hat usually has a reinforcing plate on the forehead to protect the head. For protection and for better wearing comfort, the knight wore a hood under his racing hat , which also cushioned the bumps on his head. The helmet type does not have a visor , but a narrow viewing slit. A so-called " beard " was worn to protect the chin and neck .
