Racing quintet

The Rennquintett ( proper spelling RennQuintett ) was a horse bet that was offered by the German Lotto and Totoblock . With a race on the racetrack in Gelsenkirchen-Horst on March 20, 1971 only Nordwestlotto (today: Westdeutsche Lotterie GmbH & Co. OHG, short: WestLotto) started as the organizer. From October 17, 1974, the lottery and toto companies of the other federal states were involved. The bet was popular for over two decades. In the 1990s, however, the operations gradually decreased so much that the operating costs could no longer justify the events. As a result, some state lottery companies have already dropped out (for example Baden-Württemberg on January 1, 1996). The last bets were for races on 27./28. September 2003 accepted in Bavaria, Hamburg, North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate.

The name RennQuintett is explained by the initial game formula "5 out of 16", according to which the first five, i.e. a quintet , should be selected from the respective races with sixteen participants . The game mode has been changed several times: With "3 + 4 out of 18" the first three horses in the "horse pool" should be entered in the correct order and in the "horse lottery" the first four in any order so that you have a double chance with one tip would have. According to the last formula "2 times 3 out of 15" you bet on two races. The organizers always tried to combine a gallop and a trotting race. The first prize rank was achieved if the first three horses of one of the two races A and B were predicted in the correct order, the second in any order. The combination win was achieved by the bettors who achieved first place for both races.

Various factors are cited for the declining interest: In general, interest in horse racing and horse betting has declined, the winning quotas are lower in the state lottery and toto companies because only half of the stakes are paid out, the betting mode has changed too often and the competition other sports betting, including the state-run ODDSET , got too big.

As with the other state bets and sweepstakes, half of the stake was distributed for charitable purposes. Beneficiaries beneficiaries were among other sports federations, riding and driving clubs, Galopperverband and horse breeding associations.
