German lottery and tote block
The German Lotto and Totoblock is an association of the lottery companies of the federal states for the organization of games of chance . With the help of the block, for example, uniform winning numbers and odds have been agreed. There are around 25,000 collection points nationwide.
The company's products include Lotto , ODDSET , Glücksspirale , Toto , KENO and the racing quintet , which was discontinued in 2003 .
history
It all started with the totoblock in 1948. In the early 1950s, the north-south block ( Berlin , Bremen , Hamburg , Schleswig-Holstein , Lower Saxony and Bavaria ) and the south-west block ( North Rhine-Westphalia , Hesse) were formed , Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate ) two blocks that merged on November 11, 1956 to form the German Totoblock .
Lotto “6 out of 49” began on October 9, 1955 in the states of Hamburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Schleswig-Holstein and Bavaria. The other federal states were gradually added: Bremen from May 13, 1956, Lower Saxony from June 10, 1956, Hesse from September 2, 1956, Rhineland-Palatinate from December 2, 1956, Saarland from January 6, 1957 , Baden-Württemberg from April 13, 1958, Berlin from October 4, 1959. This is how the lottery part came about.
The first block contract came into effect on October 1, 1962 and regulated, among other things, the drawing of the winning numbers and the pooling of sales and profits in order to be able to determine uniform quotas.
On July 1, 1974, Toto and Lotto were merged to form the German Lotto and Totoblock . The maximum profit at that time was 1.5 million marks.
The new federal states followed in 1992.
In 2013, the company's turnover was 7 billion euros.
The individual regional companies - with the exception of Bavaria, Berlin and Thuringia - function in the legal form as a GmbH . The respective federal state is the sole shareholder or majority owner together with state sports associations.

criticism
Took a draw on camera for too long, so that was setting simply repeated with new output. Permanent tickets of the most loyal tipsters were excluded from special raffles in order to save work. Lotto officials enjoyed long-distance travel , high salaries and generous severance payments . The need for economy was also violated when furnishing the buildings and numerous works of art were acquired with the surplus. Until 1992, only lots with the initial number 0 to 5 were sold for the Glücksspirale , which automatically turned the initial numbers 6 to 9 into rivets. If there are not enough material prizes available for all 16 lottery companies, a preliminary drawing is carried out in which the material prizes are first raffled internally between the lottery centers. Since experience has shown that enticingly high jackpots drive sales up, the system of the super number was invented and thus the probability of the main prize was further reduced.
