The Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz GmbH , headquartered in Koblenz is the lottery company in the country Rhineland-Palatinate . history

Lotto Rhineland-Palatinate was founded on November 20, 1948 in a restaurant in Mainz-Gonsenheim by the sports and football associations in the state as "Sport-Toto GmbH". Their goal was to use gambling to get the sport back on its feet after World War II. Initially, only the Toto sports bet was started, followed by the introduction of Lotto 6 out of 49 in 1956 . Then came the Glücksspirale (1970), the scratch card (1981), the ODDSET Sportwette (1999), Keno (2004) and Eurojackpot (2012). The State Treaty, which has been in force since 2008, meant that 51% of the company was taken over by the State of Rhineland-Palatinate. With this, the gaming monopoly was extended until 2011 according to a requirement of the EU .

By January 2009, 330 people from Rhineland-Palatinate had become lottery millionaires. From 1948 to 2014, Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz had a turnover of 13.9 billion euros and made almost 6 billion euros available for charitable purposes.

Sponsorship

Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz is a sponsor of 1. FC Kaiserslautern and has owned the naming rights to the east grandstand of the Fritz Walter Stadium since the 2014/2015 season . In July 2016, the sponsorship contract was extended to 2018.

In 2015 Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz became the name sponsor of the Kouta-Lotto cycling team .

Retained Profits

In 2008 and 2009, two unclaimed prizes totaling over 1.4 million euros were reported by Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz to the German Lotto- and Totoblock as paid out and illegally withheld. The managing director of Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz, Hans-Peter Schössler, was responsible. With the retained profits, a special lottery campaign was played in Rhineland-Palatinate. When the fraud became known in 2014, Schössler reported himself and asked for his contract to be terminated in March 2014. The Koblenz District Court sentenced Schössler in November 2014 to 21 months' probation and a fine of 72,000 euros. Schössler's appeal against the judgment failed before the Koblenz Regional Court .
