The Rennsteig cycle path follows the Rennsteig courier and trading route, which has existed since the Middle Ages, over a length of 195 km . The cycle path is mainly gravelled carefully, sometimes out on quiet country roads. On the ridge of the Thuringian low mountain range, the cycle path is largely identical to the hiking trail of the same name, but deviates here and there from the historic Rennsteig so that steep inclines were avoided. The start is at Hörschel west of Eisenach , the finish is in Blankenstein an der Saale.
