André Friedrich
André Friedrich , also Andreas Friederich (born January 17, 1798 in Ribeauvillé , † March 9, 1877 in Strasbourg ) was an Alsatian draftsman , sculptor and lithographer .
Life
Friedrich was a student at the Art Academy in Dresden and came to the studio of Johann Gottfried Schadow in Berlin in 1819 at the age of 21 . Supported by this, he went to Paris in 1821 , where he became a student of François Joseph Bosio .
Supported by Bosio, Friedrich went to Rome for two years , where he became a pupil of Bertel Thorvaldsen in 1824 . In 1826 Friedrich settled in Strasbourg as a freelance artist . André Friedrich died there on March 9, 1877 at the age of 79.
Friedrich's sculptures were mostly very monumental and were mostly made of sandstone and granite.
