Pension type factor
The pension type determines since 1 January 1992 within the pension formula of the German pension the amount of pension benefits with. Its amount depends on the different security goals of the pension types.
The type of pension factor is specified in Section 67, Book Six of the Social Security Code .
The factor has the effect that pensions with a wage replacement function (e.g. old-age pensions) are higher than pensions with a wage supplement function (e.g. pensions due to partial incapacity) or maintenance replacement function (e.g. widow's pensions) despite the same underlying contribution .
In the case of widow's pensions , the so-called quarter of the death (see below) still has a wage replacement function. This means that surviving spouses are not immediately referred to the lower widow's pension.

Changes due to the reform of pensions due to reduced earning capacity
The law on the reform of pensions due to reduced earning capacity, which came into force on January 1, 2001, abolished the disability pension for new pensioners. In order to protect legitimate expectations, however, the occupational protection for insured persons who were born before January 2, 1961, i.e. who had already reached the age of 40 when the reform came into force, was integrated into the new system of the two-tier disability pension. As a result, the disability pension with the pension type factor 0.6667 is no longer to be paid, but the pension for partial disability in the event of occupational disability with the factor 0.5.
The reason for the reduction in the pension artifactor for the professionally disabled enjoying legitimate expectations was that they are still able to earn the other half of their livelihood with part-time employment in their previous occupation or full-time employment in an activity in the general labor market.
