Republican Guard (Chad)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Republican Guard of Chad , sometimes referred to as the Presidential Guard , was a military unit. It consisted of about 5,000 men and was dissolved by decree on October 28, 2005 . This was preceded by massive desertion . The deserted soldiers formed in the east of the country under the name Socle pour le changement, l'unité nationale et la démocratie (abbreviated to SCUD). The group called for the removal of President Idriss Déby and the release of political prisoners . The Chad government also said members of the Guard were behind the attempted coup in 2004 . Simultaneously with the dissolution of the guard, the DGSSIE was created , which had no members from the old guard, but more or less took over their task.
