Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences

The Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences ( English , RIMS for short; Japanese 数 理 解析 研究所 , sūri kaiseki kenkyūsho ) at the University of Kyoto is a mathematical research center founded in 1963. It is the leading Japanese research center for mathematics. It is located on the north campus of Kyoto University. Around 40 scientists are currently employed there, including research professors such as Shigefumi Mori and Masaki Kashiwara, the Fields Medalist . Fields medalist Heisuke Hironaka , the first winner of the Carl Friedrich Gauß Prize Itō Kiyoshi , Mikio Satō , Tetsuji Miwa and Huzihiro Araki were professors there. The institute has published a journal, Publications of the Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences , four times a year since 1964 .
