from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Research School of Asian, African and Amerindian Studies (CNWS), which closed on September 1, 2009, was a research institute and, at the same time, a postgraduate course at the Dutch University of Leiden . In terms of content, the CNWS encompassed a large, differentiated range from African studies to Latin American studies , ethnology and oriental studies .

Only those who already had a first degree could apply here. For the postgraduate courses offered here, academics were admitted exclusively on the recommendation of the CNWS Advisory Board by the Faculty of Arts of the Leiden University after consulting the sending faculty. The students had to do at least 50 percent of their research time within official projects of the CNWS programs.

The institute's board of directors consisted of five professors who were each elected to this office for three years. An elected student representative took part in the meetings in an advisory capacity.

The institute organized international conferences, seminars, evaluations and lectures.
