Pechnelken ( Lychnis ) are a genus of plants in the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae). Some authors do not consider the Pechnelken as a separate genus, but count the species in question among the ciliate herbs ( Silene ).
The German genus name is derived from the sticky stalks of the common pecherskin ( Lychnis viscaria ).
description
Pechnelken types are perennial herbaceous plants . The dichasial branching is typical for all carnation plants . The opposite leaves are sessile, undivided, elongated and with entire margins. There are no stipules.
The inflorescences are so-called dichasias (see picture). The flowers are five-fold. The five green sepals are fused. The five petals can have very different colors. There are ten stamens . There are fruit capsules formed.
ingredients
A plant tonic is obtained from the seeds of the common pechkin, which has now also been approved by the Federal Biological Research Center for Agriculture and Forestry . This use goes back to older observations that plants grow more vigorously in fields near Pechnelken. The effect was confirmed in laboratory experiments by a Bonn researcher. It is believed that the active ingredient is a plant growth hormone .
Types (selection)
There are around 25 species of Lychnis . Here is a selection:
- Alpine light carnation ( Lychnis alpina L. )
- Burning love ( Lychnis chalcedonica L. , Syn .: Silene chalcedonica (L.) EHLKrause )
- Cuckoo's light carnation ( Lychnis flos-cuculi L. )
- Jupiter Carnation ( Lychnis flos-jovis (L.) Desr. )
- Common Pechnelke ( Lychnis viscaria L. )

- In Flora of China 's Lychnis still a valid species. Recently, Greuter (in Taxon 44: 543-581. 1995) placed Lychnis into the synonymy of Silene. However, Oxelman et al. (in Nordic J. Bot. 20: 513-518. 2001) showed that it is possible to retain Lychnis and several other genera (eg, Atocion) as separate from Silene in a taxonomy that is consistent with both the ability to diagnose taxa and solid, molecular-phylogenetic hypotheses. Some species, traditionally included in Lychnis, belong in Silene . (English)
