Respectable is a six-part comedy series from 2006 written by Shaun Pye , Alan Connor and Harry Thompson .

action

The plot tells of Michael Price, who feels trapped in his loveless marriage. In the first episode he hesitantly visits a suburban brothel. Shying away from actual sex, a platonic relationship develops with the pretty prostitute Hayley, with whom he falls in love. The series describes this relationship and also shows Michael's efforts to keep his brothel visits a secret from his wife. This is made even more difficult by the fact that his handyman, Barry, is also a frequent and uninhibited guest of the brothel.

Jodi Albert plays the naive but kind hearted Hayley. Also working in the establishment are Kate, a student, the owner Maureen, a somewhat older lady who claims to be 27 years old, and Yelena, a dominant Serb.

Reviews

In Great Britain there were protests by women's organizations even before the first episode was broadcast that Respectable was playing down the sex industry. The producers defended that it is not the job of sitcoms to present a realistic description of life.

“Cheeky British satire about double standards and the sadness of marriage and aging. The authors Shaun Pye and Harry Thompson shine with a lot of pun "

“Six episodes full of open-hearted, sympathetic gags, weird characters and original ideas. But in average DVD quality. "
