The Remaining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints , called Remaining Church ( English Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ), is a church of Mormonism . The President of the Church is Terry W. Patience, a direct descendant of Joseph Smith .

history

In the 1970s and 1980s, the fellowship of Christ was criticized by many of its members for changes in its teaching and governance. This included the calling of women to the priesthood, the end of presidents of the Joseph Smith bloodline, and the construction of the Independence Temple . This resulted in some groups of the fellowship of Christ becoming independent and establishing the Restoration Branches . In May 1999, some members of these groups met with Frederick Niels Larsen. They published the Proclamation and Invitation to the Faithful, which established the Remaining Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 6, 2000.

In April 2002, Larsen was called to serve as President of the Church because he is a direct descendant of Joseph Smith .

Larsen died on April 26, 2019. Following his death, Terry Wayne Patience became President of the Church at a special conference on June 29, 2019.

Teaching

Conference center and meeting house

Although the remainder of the Church is a split from the fellowship of Christ , it considers itself the only remnant of Christ's Church . The rest of the church is thus the "only true church". The Church has its headquarters near the Independence Temple and the headquarters of the Communion of Christ. The Church believes in the real realization of the concept of the city of Zion . The Church teaches that leadership positions should be given only to descendants of Joseph Smith .

Members of the Rest of the Church believe that translations of the Joseph Smith Bible and Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants are scriptures. Your version of the Doctrine and Covenants has the same chapters as that of the Communion of Christ , up to chapter 144 (the last revelation from Israel A. Smith ). Additionally, there are 17 revelations in the Doctrine and Covenants, all of Frederick Larsen. The Pearl of Great Price is not a scripture of the Church. However, the Book of Moses and the translation of Matthew 24 by Joseph Smith are part of their Bible translation. The Articles of Faith are published under a different name by the rest of the Church .

The Presiding Bishop of the Church, W. Kevin Romer, is known as a "true descendant of Aaron" ( Kohanim ). He is thus an "Aaronic High Priest".
