Resyllabus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Resyllabization is a way of changing syllable structure, in which the syllable boundary is shifted within a word without the word changing orthographically . The reason for this is that every language strives for the optimal syllable , which consists of a consonant and a vowel (KV), so that speaking more fluently is possible.

Examples

The word in consists of monosyllables ago and one , so should really ago • one are pronounced. Because of the resyllabization it is pronounced he • pure . It is the same with the word ahead that from before and from there, so therefore actually in front of • be pronounced would, because Resyllabierung but vo • out is pronounced. The Duden dictionary therefore allows both ways of separating ("her-in", "vor-aus", "he-rein", "vor-raus"), but recommends the latter two.

The word “midwife” was also resyllabized. The word comes from mhd etymologically . lifting beam off. After the e-syncope to avoid hiatal , two pronunciations developed, both heb • amme [ˈheːp | amə] and he • bamme [ˈheːbamə].
