The rete articulare genus ("knee joint plexus") is a network of small arteries on the front of the knee joint . The vascular plexus is formed by branches of the popliteal artery , the genus descending artery , the anterior tibial artery and the posterior tibial artery .

Although the knee plexus has numerous tributaries, its blood flow is insufficient to compensate for occlusion of the popliteal artery and to ensure an adequate blood supply to the lower leg.
