The descending artery genus - "descending knee artery", in animal anatomy arteria genus descendens (this term is outdated in human anatomy) - is an artery of the lower extremity in the area of the thigh .

The genus descending artery arises in the adductor canal ( canalis adductorius ) from the arteria femoralis . It pierces the vastoadductoria membrane with the vein of the same name and the saphenous nerve . Then it divides into several branches:

  • The ramus saphenus runs along the inside of the thigh.
  • The rami articulares participate in the vascular plexus on the knee joint ( rete articulare genus ).
