Retinology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Retinology is the science of diseases of the retina (lat. Retina ).

Retinology is a specialty of ophthalmology (ophthalmology) and is characterized by the concentration on the back of the eye. Specialists in ophthalmology (ophthalmologist) can specialize in the back of the eye through appropriate training and further education as retinologists . The treatment options for retinal diseases have developed significantly. An example of one form of treatment for retinal disease is injecting drugs into the inside of the eye. This injection is also known as intravitreal operative drug delivery (IVOM).

Retinological Society

Retinologists are organized in a specialist society, the Retinological Society (RG). This society promotes scientific and practical activity in connection with the research, detection and treatment of diseases of the posterior segment including the retina, choroid and vitreous humor through the exchange of scientific knowledge, practical experience, maintenance of further education and by stimulating scientific work.

In memory of Ernst Custodis , the Retinological Society has been honoring outstanding retinologists with the Custodis Lecture since 1992 .
