Retraction (medicine)
In medicine, retraction is the term used to describe the retraction or shrinking of organs, parts of organs or tissues. Particularly:
- the retraction of the eyeball into the eye socket ( orbit ), e.g. B. in Duane syndrome
- the shrinking of a blood clot as the active role of platelets in clotting the blood
- the retraction of the intestine sewn into the abdominal wall below skin level at the artificial anus
- retracting the tissue via the by pressing the bottom head during a contraction in the birth of a child
- the temporary withdrawal of the normal descended into the scrotum (undescended) testis in the inguinal canal by contraction of the muscle cremaster during pendulum testicular
- the collapse of a lung segment, lobe or wing in the direction of the hilum in the case of lung collapse
- the shrinkage performance of native venous blood after its coagulation in retractiometry
- Withdrawal of the lower jaw from the protrusion position to the resting position
- the regression of the gums in periodontal disease
- Displacement of the gums from the tooth neck, see retraction cord
- Reformation of the eardrum with persistent tubal dysfunction and the resulting sero-mucotympanum
