Retriever leash

Labrador Retriever with retriever leash

The retriever leash , also known as the moxon leash , is a special dog leash . It combines leash and collar. If you take it from the dog, the dog can walk through undergrowth and bank vegetation without the risk of getting caught on a collar. As the name suggests, this form of leash was originally intended for retrievers who fetch in and around the water.

The leash can also be used with other dogs and purposes where the dog should be able to act unhindered by a collar, e.g. B. in agility .

Components of a retriever leash

The Retriever line consists of Collar (which is the part that is placed instead of a collar around the neck of the dog), the actual slip line and a hand strap . The individual parts in the picture:

  1. Train limitation,
  2. Sliding ring (also implemented as a loop with a thimble) and
  3. Stopper form the
  4. Neck. Man holds that
  5. Wrist strap

A particularly thin shape with no pull limit is occasionally used as an exhibition cord; as the neck tightens as soon as the line is pulled, it is problematic in everyday life. For this reason, the retriever leash without a pull limit is prohibited in Austria.

functionality

The sliding ring can move between the draft limiter and the stopper ; this changes the width of the neck. You can let the dog off the leash by opening the neck. The stopper prevents the neck from loosening so much that the dog loses the leash. The train limiter prevents the dog from being strangled as soon as there is pull on the leash. Both must therefore be adjusted to the size of the dog before the first use.

So that the collar can loosen again as soon as there is no tension on the leash, it is important to put on the retriever leash correctly: the sliding ring must come from below .
