Reykjarfjörður nyrðri ( isl. Northern smoke Fjord ) is a bay in the Westfjords of Iceland .
As the name suggests, there are hot springs here, with temperatures up to 64 ° C. The outdoor pool there was built in 1938 with a 20 m pool. In 1988 it was renewed. The fjord is 5.5 km wide but extends less than 3.5 km into the country, so it has the shape of a bay. The meltwater from northeast Drangajökull flows through the area as Reykjarfjarðarós and flows into the fjord, which is the easternmost of Hornstrandir . One source of income in the fjord was driftwood , but the houses in the valley of the fjord have been abandoned since 1959 and are now only inhabited in summer. There are no slopes or roads leading into the area. The Ófeigsfjarðarvegur (runway F649) ends about 25 km south as the crow flies at the footbridge at Hvalárfoss.
This Reykjarfjörður is nicknamed nyrðri to distinguish it from Reykjarfjörður á Ströndum . Another fjord, Reykjarfjörður, is located in Arnarfjörður .
