Rhedanz Island

The Rhedanz Island (or Rehdanz Island ) was an island in the Malapane in Malapane ( Ozimek ) in Upper Silesia . The island was named after chief forest master Johann Georg Rhedanz, who had the Malapane hut built in the middle of the 18th century. The Malapaner Hüttenpark was located on Rhedanz Island, with several monuments that testify to the history of the ironworks.

A park was created on the island near the Malapane Royal Hut in 1803 at the initiative of Chief Inspector Franz Moritz.

There were several monuments in the hut park, including a. a monument to Rhedanz and a monument with a column to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Royal Ironworks in Malapane, and a shooting range. Today the tributary of the Malapane has been drained.

The Rhedanz monument was erected on the orders of Baron von Reden. It was completed in 1801. The inscription on the memorial read on the front: “To Johann Georg Rehdanz, Ober-Forstmeister for Silesia from 1753 to 1765.” On the back: “In memory of the man whom Friedrich II called to found Upper Silesia forest and metallurgy. Two other memorials commemorated the Wars of Liberation, one for the volunteers and one for the fallen. The one for the volunteers was an octagonal column. A name was entered on each of the eight pages: F. Langosch, L. Fabricius, E. Richter, G. Breustedt, J. Richtarski, F. Chuchul, E. Chuchul and C. Chuchul. On the plaque of the volunteer memorial was the inscription: “With God for King and Fatherland, the 8 Malapan officials named in the memorial stone left the factory, went to the army as volunteers and planted these birch trees for posterity. Of the eight birch trees planted in 1813, only one remained in 1931.

The memorial for the two fallen freedom fighters was erected in the form of a wreathed iron urn on an iron plinth. The inscription on the front read: “Gustav Breustedt, Lieutnant in the Jaeger Detachement of the 2nd Silesian Infantry Regiment, stayed with Leipzig the Elder. October 16: 1813. ”On the reverse:“ Eduard Richter, Ober Jaeger Detachement of the 2nd Silesian Infantry Regiment was d. 16 October 1813 wounded near Leipzig and died d. November 11th in the Lazareth in Altenburg. "
