The Rhine-Ruhr distribution GmbH (formerly RWE Rhein-Ruhr GmbH distribution ) was a German distribution network operator for electricity and gas .
The company was a wholly owned subsidiary of RWE Deutschland AG . It operated for RWE and other owners outside the RWE Group their regional distribution networks for electricity and gas in the Rhine-Ruhr region . The area roughly corresponded to the western and southern part of the former supply area of RWE; the western and northern part was processed by the sister company Westfalen-Weser-Ems Distribution Network GmbH .
The electrical distribution network managed by RRV was operated with a high voltage of 110 kV and covered a length of more than 9,000 km, the gas network more than 7,000 km.
The company was established in 2003 as a legally independent subsidiary of the RWE Group as part of the unbundling to liberalize the energy markets. As an independent network operator in accordance with the Energy Industry Act , the RRV made the networks available to all customers and suppliers without discrimination for the transmission of energy. In order to clarify the neutrality, in August 2011 - following a requirement due to an amendment to the EnWG - the name component "RWE" was deleted from the company and the RWE logo was no longer used.
In order to comply with the obligation to unbundle communication behavior and brand policy based on Section 7a (6) EnWG, the Rhein-Ruhr distribution network was incorporated into Westnetz GmbH on January 1, 2013 . Westnetz GmbH employs around 5300 people. Around 4,500,000 electricity customers (network users) and 600,000 gas customers (network users) are connected to their networks.
