history

Westnetz's direct predecessor companies were five companies in the RWE Group: the two distribution network companies Rhein-Ruhr distribution network and Westphalia-Weser-Ems distribution network , the two network service companies RWE Rhein-Ruhr Netzservice and RWE Westfalen-Weser-Ems Netzservice, and RWE customer service .

Westnetz GmbH was founded on January 1, 2013, but is based on over 100 years of RWE and VEW network history. The name Westnetz was chosen because after unbundling in energy law, network operation must be legally separate from the so-called supplier market role and this must also be expressed in the company name.

The former Telekom high-rise in Dortmund serves as the company's headquarters .
