Local public transport on the Canary Island of La Palma is based on the Transportes Insular La Palma S. Coop. operated bus routes . The regular buses are here, as on the other Canary Islands, called Guagua .
Line network
Currently (as of October 2015) there are 18 lines. After bus traffic had been significantly expanded over several years, the service on some lines was again significantly reduced in the course of the economic crisis with a timetable change at the end of 2012. At the same time, the names of the individual lines were changed. The numbering is roughly based on the designation of the main roads that the individual lines follow. For example, line 200 of the LP-2 road from Santa Cruz de La Palma over the south of the island to Los Llanos de Aridane , line 300 of the LP-3 road from Santa Cruz via El Paso to Los Llanos. Other important lines are line 100 from Santa Cruz via the north of the island to Los Llanos ( LP-1 ) and line 500 from Santa Cruz via the tourist resort of Los Cancajos to the airport ( LP-5 ).
Most lines run every two hours, those with higher numbers of passengers every hour or half hour. These intervals are often thinned out on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays as well as in times of low passenger traffic. In the case of special events (e.g. Día de Los Indianos ), the regular timetables of some lines are suspended and the buses then run as required.
In both urban and rural areas, the stops are often only a few hundred meters apart. Where this is not the case, e.g. B. in very sparsely populated areas, the buses usually stop between the stops at the request or sign of the passenger.
The departure times are often only given as a guideline in the timetable - even for stops in larger towns. At the bus stops, which are equipped with shelters, there are usually boards with information that can be used to estimate departure times.
The airport is only connected to the capital, where you can change trains in many directions. Bus 500 runs every half hour, except in the morning on Sundays and public holidays and except in the afternoon on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The important bus to Los Llanos in St. Cruz connects a little awkwardly: there you have to wait at least 25, but often 55 minutes. There are no such votes.
Tariff
Each trip is to be paid individually, i. H. a new ticket must be purchased when changing. Exception: trips with line 100, which require a change in Barlovento and Puntagorda, because smaller buses operate on the narrow road sections in the north.
There are three tariffs, one for journeys up to 10 kilometers, one for journeys up to 20 kilometers and one for journeys above, the prices are € 1.50, € 2.40 and € 2.60 (as of January 2019). Discounts were possible until 2019 through a contactless chip card called Bonobus / Tarjeta .
