Location and surroundings

With eight cremation facilities, the Rhein-Taunus crematorium is one of the largest crematoriums in Europe. Construction of the building began in 1999. In 2001 the crematorium went into operation. It is in the Loreley community. Various urn cemeteries have been created in the immediate vicinity . The Rhein-Taunus-Crematorium is one of the first privately run crematoriums in Germany.

The crematorium is located in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley Cultural Landscape World Heritage outside of Dachsenhausen . It is surrounded by forest, fields and various cemeteries. Access is via a spur road. In the past, the location was used by the German Armed Forces as a partial depot for the storage of ammunition.

technology

There are eight cremation lines in the Rhein-Taunus crematorium. These are gas-powered deck cremation ovens. Rotatable steel plates are built in to separate the different stages of cremation. This makes it possible for three deceased to be cremated at the same time without the ashes being mixed up. In four of the systems, the flue gas cleaning takes place via an exhaust line with an integrated fixed bed filter. Two systems have a filter with entrained flow method and fabric filter.

Some of the facilities are designed so that they can be used for cremation with a total weight (deceased and coffin) of up to 450 kg.

Premises

The Rhein-Taunus-Crematorium is a multi-storey building complex. The rooms have different uses.

  • Delivery hall: Undertakers drive into the hall with the hearse . There the coffin with the deceased is unloaded and weighed.
  • Cold rooms: The Rhein-Taunus-Crematorium has a total of five different cold rooms. Cold rooms with lower temperatures are also available for special deaths.
  • Offices: The main reception and offices are on the ground floor. On the first floor there are further offices of the subsidiary Deutsche Friedhofsgesellschaft.
  • Cremation plant: The eight cremation plants are currently controlled and monitored from the central control station. Here, among other things, the progress of the cremation can be checked and temperatures can be read and adjusted. The steering position is on the ground floor. On the same level, the coffins are transferred to the multi-storey cremation facility for cremation . One level below, the ashes are then placed in urns.
  • Farewell room: relatives can attend the handover of the coffin. There is a demarcated area at the cremation facility for this.
  • Mourning hall: A mourning hall is available to the bereaved in the adjacent cemetery . There you can say goodbye at the coffin or the urn.
  • Winter garden: The winter garden serves as a meeting point and lounge for visitors and mourners.
  • Room of Silence: The urn of a deceased person can be placed in this place for a limited time. Reasons for using the Room of Silence are, for example, that relatives do not yet know where the urn should be buried or that the bereaved still need some time to say goodbye.
  • Playground: There is a playground for children outside.

Others

  • The Rhein-Taunus-Crematorium works in shifts . For undertakers with electronic access, the deceased can be delivered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Parts of the crematorium are under video surveillance. The activities in the areas where there are coffins or where ashes have not yet been placed in a sealed urn are recorded.
  • Tooth gold is left in the ashes at the Rhein-Taunus crematorium; medical implants are removed.
