The Rheintalische Strassenbahnen (RhSt) were a tram, bus and electrical engineering company in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley in Switzerland .

The RHST were 1895 Electric tram Altstätten-Berneck established to the 1897 opened tram Altstätten-Berneck to operate, also called Altstätten-Berneck train was called (ABB). In addition, ABB ran an electricity company in Altstätten , which was sold to the St. Gallen electricity company in 1911. ABB ran the Altstätten-Gais-Bahn (AG), which opened in 1911, until 1949 . The AG used the track of the ABB from Altstätten Rathaus to Altstätten SBB, in return the tram went to Altstätten Stadt.

When the Heerbrugg – Diepoldsau branch was opened in 1915, ABB changed its name to Rheintalische Trassenbahnen . A desired connection to the Dornbirn – Lustenau tram in Vorarlberg could not be realized, but in 1930 the cross-border bus service to Hohenems was started. In 1940 the Altstätten – Berneck trolleybus with a high voltage of 1000 V DC replaced the Altstätten – Berneck tram. After a bus line replaced the tram between Heerbrugg and Diepoldsau in 1956, the RhSt was renamed the Rheintalische Verkehrsbetriebe (RhV) in 1958 .

In 1973 the tram was shut down on the remaining Altstätten Stadt – Altstätten SBB section, and in 1977 trolleybus operations were abandoned and replaced by buses. Until 1975 the trains of the St. Gallen-Gais-Appenzell-Altstätten-Bahn (SGA) used the section Rathaus-SBB station. In 1995 the RhV outsourced its bus operation to the newly founded RTB Rheintal Bus , the electrical engineering division is continued under the name RhV Elektrotechnik AG .
