Rheinuferbahnhof

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rheinuferbahnhof (also known as Bonn Endbahnhof ) was a train station of the Cologne-Bonn Railways (KBE) in Bonn , which was connected to Bonn Central Station to the north .

The station had a maximum of five butt tracks . This is where the Rheinuferbahn ended from 1905 and the Vorgebirgsbahn from 1929 . Due to the construction of the north underpass for road traffic, the station, which had previously been directly adjacent to the main platform of the Reichsbahnhof, was rebuilt somewhat offset in 1935. At times, ended here and the tram Bonn-Godesberg-Mehlem (BGM) and the Honnefer train the SSB . However, there was no track connection between the KBE and the other railways.

With the construction of the Bonn Stadtbahn , the Rheinuferbahnhof became superfluous. From 1978 the Rheinuferbahn operated as a light rail via the new “Hauptbahnhof” underground station to the Bonn light rail network . On October 25, 1985, the foothills railway was also switched to light rail operations. Shortly afterwards, the Rheinuferbahnhof was torn down and there was an unpaved parking lot in its place until 2018. The so-called "Nordfeld" has been under construction since 2018, along with a parking garage and shops.
