Rhipsalis teres is a species of plant in the genus Rhipsalis from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Rhipsalis teres grows epiphytically or lithophytically shrubby with initially somewhat upright, later hanging, richly branched shoots with unlimited growth. The fresh green, cylindrical, smooth shoots end in a compound areole . They are single, alternate or stand together in whorls of three to six or more shoots. They are 6 to 9 inches long and 2 to 3 millimeters in diameter. The areoles are covered with gray wool and occasionally with one or two bristles.
The yellowish white flowers appear laterally on young shoots. They are up to 12 millimeters long and reach the same diameter. The depressed spherical fruits are white.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Rhipsalis teres is widespread in the south and southeast of Brazil .
It was first described as Cactus teres in 1829 by José Mariano da Conceição Vellozo . Ernst Gottlieb von Steudel placed the species in the genus Rhipsalis in 1841 .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
