The Graal-Müritz Rhododendron Park is a 4.5 hectare park in the Graal-Müritz Baltic Sea spa . With around 2,500 rhododendron and azalea bushes , it is unique in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and one of the largest of its kind in Germany .

history

Today's Rhododendron Park was gradually created by the Rostock horticultural architect Friedrich-Karl Evert from 1955 to 1961. The basis for the work was a resolution by the municipal council to create a forest park that should extend from Ernst-Thälmann-Strasse (today Kurstrasse) to Buchenweg (west of Parkstrasse). The area in the west of the village was previously a sand pit. The aim was "to create a forest park with bushes underplanting from flowering trees, which could also fulfill a coastal protection function." The last roundings were made in 1964 and 1964.

Since then it has been a public spa park for vacationers, day visitors and locals. The entrance to the park was affected by parked cars in the 1970s, so the parking facilities around the Rhododendron Park were redesigned in 1999 and 2000. In 1986 the park was declared a monument.

In the years 2005 to 2007 the park was completely renovated, whereby not only the vegetation was trimmed and renewed, but also the footpaths and game protection fences were renewed. In addition, the park, which was previously only accessible from the city side, was also connected to the nearby campsite area by a bridge. Furthermore, a concert pavilion with a stage was built in which various events take place all year round.
