history

Rhythms of Resistance Berlin on Mayday 2005

Rhythms of Resistance follows the tradition of the Afro-Block drum groups that emerged in Brazil in the 1970s. These evolved from the poorest neighborhoods and became a movement of resistance and a source of self-confidence that was being commercialized by the sprouting samba schools around the world. The Rhythms of Resistance groups are often referred to as Samba bands , which is an imprecise name in that different rhythms are rehearsed.

This music combined with dancers and the concept of " tactical frivolity " formed the basis for an action concept that during the IMF / World Bank - Summit took place in 2000 for the first time large in Prague Application: Pink & Silver . The aim of the groups is self- and external empowerment and the presentation of creative and publicly communicable protests.

As a result, bands have developed and networked across Europe and beyond.
