Ria Oomen-Ruijten
Maria Gertruda Hermina Cecilia (Ria) Oomen-Ruijten (born September 6, 1950 in Echt ) is a Dutch politician and has been a member of the European Parliament since 1989.
She is a member of the Christen Democratisch Appèl (CDA), member of the board of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats), sits in the EU Parliament in the Committee on Foreign Affairs and is a substitute member in the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs.
From June 1981 to September 1989 Ria Omen was a member of the Dutch Parliament. During this time she was largely responsible for social affairs.
From 1985 to 2013, Ria Oomen was Chair of the Dutch Consumer Complaints Foundation (De Geschillencommissie). The foundation handles consumer complaints and complaints between companies.
In 2013, Ria Oomen announced her candidacy for the office of EU Ombudsman . However, the European Parliament elected Emily O'Reilly .
