The Aveiro Ria is a water landscape on the west coast of Portugal. It stretches along the coast for about 45 km between Ovar in the north and Mira in the south. It reaches its greatest extent with approx. 11 km near the city of Aveiro , at the mouth of the Rio Vouga . The campus of Aveiro University , which was redesigned in the 1980s according to plans by the architect Nuno Portas, borders the water landscape.

The Aveiro Ria is known for its biodiversity, which has developed in this unique brackish water landscape. The tides of the Atlantic supply the area with plenty of fresh salt water, the mouths of the rivers provide fresh water supplies. In the area of the urban area of Aveiro, the Ria is used for salt production: At high tide, salt water is directed onto special fields, which evaporates through the sun's rays and leaves crystallized sea salt behind. The salt is heaped up in piles that shape the landscape as white cones.

The biodiversity of the extensive waters is the traditional livelihood of the numerous fishermen in the region.
