The Rialto Lichtspiele were a cinema at Vogelhüttendeich 30 in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg . It was opened in 1913 as the Reiher Theater , from 1921 it established itself for the showing of cinema films and until 1936 as a silent film theater . It had 335 places. After the war, only a low mansard roof and the parapet like a neo-baroque dormer were preserved from the original old building . In the 1950s, the building was given the appearance that had existed to date with an asymmetrical facade clad with tiles and a four-wing, rear entrance door.

The cinema developed further with the trends in technology and always offered the new cinema picture and sound formats , for example it introduced Cinesmascope in 1956 . In 1987 the Rialto, like many other cinemas in the course of the development of cinema history , had to stop operating.

In 2013, the cinema was provisionally restored through a private initiative and voluntary help and received provisional approval from the authorities for a playing time of 180 days until October 31, 2013. On May 3, 2013, the silent film Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari , musically accompanied by violinist Chris Drave, reopened. In addition to films, readings, performances of plays and concerts were also held here.

In December 2017 the building was demolished.
