The brothers Richard and Adam Johnson, known as Richard & Adam or The Johnson Brothers , are a Welsh singing duo who became famous in 2013 for their participation in Britain's Got Talent .
Career
Richard and his three year younger brother Adam come from Holywell in North East Wales. Both have no classical vocal training and are self-taught, but gained stage experience through the Birkenhead Operatic Society Trust and musical performances in Liverpool. It was there that they also won their first singing competition. Before they pursued their singing career, they mainly worked in the branch of a fast food chain and a café that belong to their parents. In addition, the tenor Richard and the baritone Adam Johnson appeared as a vocal duo. In 2011 they were discovered by a label and signed. They recorded an album and performed at various events across the UK. They spent one season at the New Theater in Bridlington in the north of England and they were regularly hired for the excursion ships of P&O Cruises . Their standard repertoire consisted of modern musical melodies.
In early 2013, the then 22 and 19 year old brothers for the seventh season of the competed talent show Britain's Got Talent . In the auditions they sang the song The Impossible Dream from the musical Der Mann von La Mancha (1965) and were then allowed to compete in the first semi-finals. With another musical classic, Somewhere (also known as There's a Place for Us ) from the West Side Story (1957), they won the audience vote and made it to the final. There they sang The Impossible Dream again . Although their performance was interrupted by an egg-throwing disruptor, they finished third and were the best of all participants who had started with singing numbers.
Shortly after the finale, Richard & Adam signed a record deal with Sony Music and their album The Impossible Dream, named after the competition entry, was released on July 29th . The album mainly contains musical and pop songs in a classical style. In the first week, the album entered the UK charts at number one and was able to maintain that position for four weeks. For February 2014, the duo announced a tour of Great Britain.
