Richard Alfred Rossiter

Richard Alfred Rossiter (born December 19, 1886 in Oswego , New York , † January 26, 1977 in Bloemfontein , South Africa ) was an astronomer and one of the namesake for the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect .

Richard Alfred Rossiter was particularly concerned with the study of double stars and discovered over 5500 double stars. From 1928 to 1952 he was director of the Lamont-Hussey Observatory in Bloemfontein .
