Aurelius Maria Arkenau OP (born January 7, 1900 in Essen / Oldenburg as Joseph August Arkenau ; † October 19, 1991 in Bedburg-Kirchherten ) was a German Dominican priest and opponent of the Nazi regime .

From 1940 to 1946 he was pastor and superior of the Dominican convent of the Dominican monastery of St. Albert in Leipzig. From 1942 to 1945 he hid deserters, forced laborers , Jews and communists in the monastery or in his own parsonage and arranged medical help and false passports. He was honored as Righteous Among the Nations on August 5, 1999 by the Israeli Yad Vashem Memorial .

The guest house of the new monastery building was named after him in his honor, as was the central square at the Wahren town hall near the monastery. A plaque commemorates the courageous religious on the house where he was born across from the church in Essen .
