Baron Richard Balfe Balfe, (* 14. May 1944 in Barton Mills , Mildenhall , Suffolk ) is a British politician of the Conservative Party .

Life

Balfe was a member of the European Parliament from 1979 to 2004 . He was a member of the Labor Party . In 2002 he joined the Conservative Party after a dispute in the Labor faction . His move in 2002 is the first move by an elected Labor Party member to the Conservative Party since 1977, when British politician Reg Prentice, Baron Prentice, moved to the Conservative Party.

On September 19, 2013 Richard Balfe was promoted to Life Peer with the title Baron Balfe , of Dulwich in the London Borough of Southwark, and thus a member of the House of Lords .
