Said Manafi (born August 9, 1943 in Tabriz ) is an Iranian-Austrian director and cameraman .

Life

Said Manafi came to Vienna to study at the Film Academy. He completed a double degree in directing and production at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna , Department of Film and Television, and a doctorate degree at the University of Applied Arts Vienna , Department of Cultural and Intellectual History.

Manafi works as a freelance director and cameraman in various film and television productions (including ORF , Sascha-Film , Televisfilm, Cinecoop, Wien-Film and SHB-Film). From 1997 he worked at the Federal Institute for Scientific Film (ÖWF) with a focus on producing various documentaries in the field of ethnology, responsible for directing and producing the script in collaboration with various scientific authors. From 1997 to 2009 he was a director and cameraman in the Austrian media library . His films have been shown in retrospectives (including in the 1994 Votive Summer Cinema) and in film weeks in Austria and Iran.

Manafi takes on teaching activities in the field of film and video at irregular intervals, with a focus on dramaturgy and making documentary films.

Manafi is co-founder of the Austrian Filmmaker-Cooperation and the Association of Iranian Artists in Austria. He was a member of the Austrian Camera Association, is a member of the Iranian Documentary Film Association, Khaneh Cinama and has been a member of Künstlerhaus Wien since 2019 .
