Richard Stuart Best, Baron Best OBE (born June 22, 1945 ) is a British peer .

Career

Best attended Shrewsbury School and then the University of Nottingham . From 1970 to 1973 he was director of the British Churches Housing Trust, then until 1988 of the Federation of Housing Associations . From 1988 to December 2006, he directed the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust .

1988 Best was awarded with the Order of the British Empire awarded and on 4 June 2001 he was appointed Life peer as Baron Best , of Godmanstone in the County of Dorset, was appointed. Since then he has been a crossbencher in the House of Lords . On July 13, 2007 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of York .

He is married for the second time and has four children.
