Richard "Riša" Hobzik (born April 4, 1963 in Prague ) is a former Czech badminton player .

Career

At the age of 16, he first drew attention to himself in the Czechoslovak Republic in 1980 , when he kept the competition, up to three years older, in chess with a triple title win at the Czechoslovak Junior Championships. A year later he managed again to fight for all three possible titles. In 1984 he won his first adult title in men's doubles with Miroslav Šrámek. In the period that followed, his career was marked by recurring injuries to the flapping arm, so that an early end to his career became apparent. With his Meteor Prague team , however, he still managed to win several team titles. Surprisingly, he celebrated a comeback in 1994 as the Czech champion in men's doubles, although he also won this gold medal alongside Tomasz Mendrek, who was outstanding at the time. In the following years he increasingly promoted the sporting ambitions of his son Adam in badminton.

Richard Hobzik, called "Hobza" (pronounced "Hoppsa" in German) by friends, still lives in Prague today and works for Metrostav, the construction company for the Prague subway.
